To be a Payroll
Specialist, you must be able to work both independently and with a team to
accomplish goals and objectives, follow written and verbal instructions to
complete assigned tasks, willingness to work with health care professionals,
clients, families, and the general public. Written and verbal communication
skills are required to communicate effectively as appropriate to the needs of
the audience and have excellent time management skills, effective
organizational skills, and a strong attention to detail.
Skill in MS Office,
Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with the ability to learn new software is a
must. Entering and checking the validity of data is important, as is responding
to client questions.

Essential Task:
- Audit time records submitted by clients to ensure
conformance with appropriate administrative policies and regulations and
memoranda of understanding; verify salary adjustments and retroactive
payroll for all employees. Collect corrected information as needed.
- Coordinate payroll runs; review documents, correct
errors and balance payroll for each pay period; compile routine reports
related to payroll activity; post payroll adjustments to the general
ledger as necessary.
- Explain company payroll policies and procedures; work
with New Hire and Service Advisors and respond to inquiries from employers
regarding changes in paychecks, time sheets and coding.
- Process new CDS clients including establishing tax
identification for federal and state use, setting up tax accounts, and
obtaining agent status.
- Prepare and audit information needed for state and/or
federal quarterly or annual reports.
- Terminate agent status for clients who are discharged
and complete other discharge functions.
- Observe confidentiality policies at all times.
- Comply with federal, state, & company policies,
procedures, and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned which may
include employment verifications, salary verifications, garnishments,
direct deposits, and accounts payable.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two (2) years of experience in payroll accounting
required.
- Must be able to demonstrate competence with computer
applications such as MS Word and
- Excel and have the ability to readily learn agency
specific software.
- Must be able to type 35 wpm with 80% accuracy, 80%
accuracy in Excel, and 6,000 to 8,000
- keystrokes proficient in 10-key adding machine.
